Cron Job Management
Cron Job Management
Manage scheduled tasks for each site. BlitzPress replaces WordPress’s unreliable WP-Cron with a proper system cron.
WP-Cron vs System Cron
| Feature | WP-Cron | System Cron (BlitzPress) |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | On page visit | System timer (exact schedule) |
| Reliability | Misses tasks on low-traffic sites | Always runs on time |
| Performance | Adds latency to page loads | Runs in background, zero impact |
| Default | Disabled by BlitzPress | Set up automatically |
Default Cron Setup
When a site is created, BlitzPress automatically:
- Sets
define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true)in wp-config.php - Adds a system cron that runs WP-Cron events every minute:
* * * * * cd /home/{domain}/public_html && wp cron event run --due-now --allow-root --quiet
Adding Custom Cron Jobs
From the panel, go to your site → Cron Jobs → Add New.
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | Standard cron format (5 fields) or shortcuts | 0 3 * * * (daily at 3am) |
| Command | Shell command to execute | wp cache flush --path=/home/example.com/public_html --allow-root |
Schedule Shortcuts
@yearly— once a year (Jan 1, midnight)@monthly— first day of each month@weekly— every Sunday at midnight@daily— every day at midnight@hourly— every hour
Safety
Dangerous commands are automatically blocked:
rm -rf /,dd if=,mkfs,shutdown,reboot- Fork bombs and disk-destructive operations
Cron Status Check
The panel shows your WP-Cron health status:
- Optimal — WP-Cron disabled + system cron active
- Redundant — both WP-Cron and system cron active (wastes resources)
- Broken — WP-Cron disabled but no system cron (scheduled tasks won’t run)
- Default — WP-Cron enabled, no system cron (unreliable)
